How Can I Break My Apartment Lease?

I am having a baby in August and my lease isn’t up until October. I live in a one bedroom, loft apartment. Technically it is one bedroom and you aren’t supposed to have more than two people in a one bedroom. We already have one child living with us so another would make four people in a one bedroom apartment. Is that grounds to legally break a lease without having to pay the rent until october?

In the apartment complex where I live a woman was renting a studio apartment (with huge furniture, really packed in there) then she had her mother come to “live” with her, then she said her daughter would be home from school in a couple of months and would live with her as well. As soon as the management heard about this they went down and talked with her, insisted she move to a larger apartment within the complex, it cost her all of $75 to write up a new lease, and of course her moving costs which were minimal. So she didn’t have to break any lease…it was cancelled out because she moved within the complex. Could you do that? When a person moves from one apartment to another though their credit is checked. Is this a good time to let them know?

NO. The only legal grounds to break a lease are: 1. for there to be a major health or safety issue with the unit. 2. To be active military and get new orders.
You would have to pay what ever lease break fee your lease states in order to leave.
EDIT: NOPE. Law enforcement is not military. Transferring for any other job does not count.

you should talk to your landlord about your situation and work something out. when i’ve had tenants that needed to break their lease for a legitimate reason i would let them out as long as soon as i could find another tenant to move in.
