Can Someone Help Me With Apartment Lease Problems?
I have just been hit up with a letter from the collections agency wanting the two months of unpaid rent we left. It was a 14 month lease. We left after a year.
The staff on several occasions neglected to fix our problems with some of the appliances (AC, Hot water) in the apartment, within a timely manner. The only problem is, we do not have receipts for our requests. The sliding door to the outside was always broke even after they claimed to have fixed it. We lived in a neighborhood with heavy drug traffic.
We, on several occasions, were solicited by a maintenance staff member for money and cigarettes.
Am I screwed? I already am disputing the collections claim.
its your word against theres and being that they already went to court and won a judgement against you to collect the funds you best pay up. Especially since u dont have any documentation to support your claims. i think u shoudl stop arguing the heavy drug traffic bc u chose to sign the papers for the lease. if repairs werent made u should have called housing and had them make state documentation. u have nothing to support your claims ur pretty much indebted to paying back the two months that you promised to live there. pay the money so ur credit will not be damaged.
You have no leg to stand on. Just pay the rent, it’s going to destroy your credit and you’ll still have to pay. Better to take care of it now.
