Any Ways To Break Apartment Lease Early?

I have been in my apartment for almost 2 years now, but it has gone straight down hill since then. There has been shootings and break ins and cops are always in the neighborhood. The office sent me a letter saying I need to renew my lease because it is ending in March, but we have already found somewhere else to live and they will move all our stuff for us. We are just stuck in this hell hole until March, and I am desperate to get my son away from this environment ASAP!! Any suggestions?

Look over your lease carefully. There may be a provision about the safety of the tenants. Otherwise cough of the money and move right away. You and your family’s safety is more important.

Usually, if you want to break the lease you will have to pay two months’ rent and forfeit your deposit. Therefore, in your case, it is probably not worth it.
